The Decatur Community Fund for Recruitment and Retention of Health Professionals Fund
Purpose: To help facilitate the retention and recruitment of health professionals in Decatur County. Health Professionals for this purpose include but is not limited to:
- Medical Providers / Physicians (MD, PA, NP)
- Nursing Staff (RN, LPN, CNA, CMA, etc.)
- Laboratory / Radiology Professionals
- Physical and Respiratory Therapists
- Mental Health Professionals or Staff
- County Health Professionals, including but not limited to emergency medical service personnel and county health nursing staff
- Specialty Providers (Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Obstetrics, Oncology, etc.)
- Allied health professionals (dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, etc.)
- Alternative health professionals (chiropractic, massage therapy, etc.)
- Veterinary Service providers and technicians
The Fund provides grant funds for select initiatives following the guidelines below. The Grant Committee will review all applications and make decisions based on the overall application submitted. Interviews with applicants may be required prior to final decisions.
- All grant requests will be made through an online application process through a qualified charitable organization: 501(c)(3) public charitable organization, government organization, educational institution, or religious organization.
- All requests will be reviewed by the designated committee with a quorum established, evaluated using a rubric, and recommendations made to the GROW Decatur County Foundation Board of Directors for final approval.
- All awardees must provide a final report that includes how the funds were utilized and an evaluation of the impact of the funding on the community.
- Funds should be allocated equitably for both recruitment and retention of health professionals.
- Recruitment efforts should focus on reaching health professionals seeking to move or remain in a rural community and have a long-term vested interest in serving the Decatur community.
- Retention efforts should focus on critical health professional positions that are vital to ensuring urgent medical needs are met locally.
- Funds should be used to recruit health professionals to either live within or practice in Decatur County, or to retain health professionals that live within or practice in Decatur County. (Funds should not be used to support health professionals who are regionally focused and do not have a physical presence within Decatur County.)
- Priority should be given to initiatives that have a strong case for “staying power.” The primary goal should be to recruit / retain health professionals who plan to stay long-term in Decatur County.
- Priority should be given to initiatives that focus on high-impact health professional services that are severely lacking or at risk of being lost in Decatur County, forcing citizens to seek care outside of Decatur County.
- Priority should be given to initiatives where the requesting organization is able to contribute financially to the initiative.
- Priority should be given to initiatives that are attainable and sustainable.
Funds are not intended for the following:
- Cover full salary of health workers.
- Cover 100% of costs to establish a new health office in the community.
Applications are accepted by invitation only. A follow up report is required for all grants awarded. MacIntosh / Apple file formats are not accepted.
